Embroidering Change

Watch this video to help you reflect on change.

Get inspired by the work of Victoria Villasana. She embroiders on photos to celebrate culture and identity with color and pattern.

Step 3

Materials

Gather your materials and get ready to get creative.

Needle (one with a large eye will be helpful)

Yarn, embroidery thread, string

Thumbtack or awl

Pencil

Tape (masking/painters)

Photo (works great with printer paper or photo paper)

Step 4

Look

Look through old photos of yourself find one that you think shows the “old you.”

Gather

We willuse yarn, embroidery thread or string to change our photos 

Change

Change your photo into a better representation of ​who you are now​ or want to be in the future​.

Repeat

If you have multiple copies you can use theoriginal photo print or if you have a scanner and printer, create a copy—printer paper is fine!
